Connecticut Therapy & Counseling License

LPC (Licensed Professional Counselors) licensure is handled by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. The first step in obtaining your LPC license is to complete your master’s degree in counseling or a similar subject at a state-accredited program. In order to qualify for licensure you must complete 60 graduate hours in counseling. The Connecticut Department of Public Health doesn’t require applicants to enroll in an internship program but do require that you do have some type of internship or apprentice experience in this field. Individuals must complete 3,000 hours of post-graduate supervised experience of professional counseling for at least a year or more, which does include a 100 hours of direct supervision by a licensed professional counselor. The next step after completing your required number of experienced hours is to apply for the National Counselor Examination for Licensure. The (NCE) is a multiple-choice examination which assesses the abilities in effective counseling services. Once you’ve completed and passed the examination for licensure, you’re now ready to apply for licensure. The required fee for the LPC license is around $315 and must be renewed the following month of your birth month every year. Once you’ve been accepted for licensure you may now practice freely as a Connecticut LPC, and must maintain your license with 15 hours of continuing education ever year.
